Updates

I updated the powers of inquiry in the Irish Parliament post with the results of the referendum (failed by 53%-47%) but I’ve also noted that the reforms that didn’t require constitutional amendments have passed so committees do have more power.

Today a report was published by the procedure committee to allow the House of Lords to implement the least contentious of Lord Goodlad’s proposals. Nothing massively interesting – it’s all efficiency and terminology reforms rather than the more contentious effectiveness reforms – but it’s at least worth noting its existence. The rest of the proposals are being negotiated through the usual channels (the party whips) and we’ll soon see if and when the rest of the proposals are going to be put down as motions.
